Troop Upcoming Events and Announcements

Campout this weekend

For those going on the campout this weekend:

I noticed that the newsletter called us leaving at 6:30 but the permission slip stated 7:00 PM.  With that discrepancy I will hold off from leaving until 7PM [unless all are there earlier].  Sorry for the confusion.

We will camp in the Lake Hope State Park on Friday night and then hit the Zaleski Trail on Saturday morning.

Just a few notes about this trip.
      1.    We will be camping in tents (or a shelter you build). If you need a troop tent you should have already let me know that you need one.  Tarps too.  If you still need one PLEASE let me know asap.  If you have your own tent / tarp you may bring it on this outing. Plan accordingly.
      2.    You need to bring your own food and gear to cook with.  If you need a stove then plan accordingly.  You can team up with others; just make sure to plan this out.  Your lunch should be a trail meal; with no cooking required.  Plan your cooked meals at breakfast and dinner.
      3.    It will be cool and possibly wet.  Please plan accordingly.  A stocking hat at night will keep you warmer in your sleeping bag.  Plan your warmth layers so you can add or take off to keep from getting too hot on the trail.  Once we stop you will get cool fast;  that’s when you need to add a layer.
      4.    You will need to have water for the starting on the trail.  There is water available along the trail and in our campsite.
      5.    We will have the option to either do the 2 miles in and out for a shorter trek,  or 8 miles in and 2 miles out on the longer trek.  All gear will have to be hiked in that you will need for the weekend.
      6.    Your pack [with food and tent gear] should only be approximately 20-25% of your weight.
      7.    BE SURE TO WEAR A BELT!  This will keep your pants from falling down as you back pack on the trail.  DON’T FORGET!
      8.    Plan to have a change of clothes for sleeping.  Socks too!  This will make you warmer at night when you get out of the clothes that have your perspiration on them from the day’s activity.
      9.    Boots please!
      10. Each of us should have a simple first aid kit that can take care of those cuts and blisters along the trail.  I will have a troop first aid kit, but you can do the simple care as you have been trained.

If you have any questions please send me a note that I can respond to.  It is much better to get your planning for this event done before you go.  That way we will have a successful trip.

See you on Friday night!

Sincerely,

Kirk Bohanan

Tyler's Eagle Project

Parents and Scouts: Please see the attached note from Tyler Straight – He needs your assistance on his Eagle Project.  Please assist if you can. Thanks. Kirk Bohanan Scoutmaster Troop 136     Hey everyone! Tyler Straight here.    First of all, I'd like to thank everyone who attended my Eagle Scout Project this weekend. While we were unable to work Sunday, the crew that arrived on Saturday did a magnificent job. We painted nearly everything we needed to, and we removed an impressive amount of gravel in our small four hour window. Everyone worked hard and were respectful, and I couldn't ask for any more than that.    To continue this good work, I will again be holding two work days this weekend, Saturday, July 19th from 8:00 a.m to 12:00 p.m. and Sunday, July 20th from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. behind Grove City High School at 4665 Hoover Rd. I similar equipment to last time, such as wheelbarrows, shovels, and rakes. I will not, however, need any paint...
